Ungelesener Beitrag ProjectSWG Stresstest
Dear ProjectSWG Community Member,

We write to you today to inform you that on December 15, 2012, Project SWG (PSWG) will launch all services (MMO excluding Trading Card Game) for a stress test. The launching of ProjectSWG is a very challenging task, but Project SWG and team have mutually agreed that the end of 2012 is the appropriate time to launch the game.

A stress test is a test often undertaken before a server is officially launched in order to test how a server copes when subjected to the stress of hundreds, thousands or even millions of users. As during development, only a small amount of individuals are using the server at any one time, it is necessary to find out how it will cope when subjected to a much wider audience, before it is launched.

Our stress test may or may not be temporary in nature; our server may go up and down or even crash multiple times and we may or may not decide to wipe the database before officially launching. The important thing to be aware of is that this will be a test; that there will be crashes and instability; that not all of the launch features will be implemented and that you should not expect to retain any characters that you make. Should your characters be wiped, this will be the only character wipe that will ever occur.

We are extremely grateful to all of the ProjectSWG fans. We have had the rare opportunity to host one of the most dedicated and passionate online gaming communities and we truly appreciate the support we've received from each and every one of you over the course of the past year.

In recognition of your incredible loyalty, we are extending the planned stress test indefinitely. We also plan to launch with a bang with a galaxy-beginning in-game event this December and hope to see you all there. The details relating to these offers and events as well as the timeline and specifics regarding the launching of the service, will be provided in the coming days.

Again, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our player community for making ProjectSWG one of the best online communities in gaming history.

Sincerely,

Project SWG & Team

Stress Test Frequently Asked Questions

What is a stress test?

A stress test is a test often undertaken before a server is officially launched in order to test how a server copes when subjected to the stress of hundreds, thousands or even millions of users. As during development, only a small amount of individuals are using the server at any one time, it is necessary to find out how it will cope when subjected to a much wider audience and address any stability bugs that are discovered, before it is launched.

How long will the stress test last?

Indefinitely, but this may be subject to change at any time.

What if a problem occurs with the stress test and we can't login?

Launching a game server to the public is a huge task, which on the planned launch date relies on the complete and total success of all of the different software you have developed. It's possible that any number of problems can and probably will arrise, for some or all of our users, and if they do, then we will address them as soon as we can. There may or may not be problems and delays and they may last seconds, minutes, hours, days or even weeks. We make no guarantees that this will be a smooth test, and we can almost certainly guarantee you the opposite.

Will all of the game features be implemented (groups, guilds, combat, quests, pvp, etc.)?

No. The server will be extremely bare and buggy with the only features implemented being those reported in the Developer Updates forum.

Okay, will there even be basic features in?

No; it would be a huge stretch even to say that the stress test will have basic features implemented. Our goal is to test and squash stability bugs, not features.

So what can I expect when I login?

You can expect any character you make to spawn without hair or clothes and you can expect that the female gender is not yet working. You can expect that the only working features will be character creation, movement, chat, emotes and anything else reported in the Developer Updates forum. You can also expect that some actions you perform will crash your game due to them not being implemented, or worse, crash the server. You can expect that, due to the amount of people that will be able to login, that many players will quickly find ways of crashing the server.

Great! So how do I login?

You'll need to await the release of the ProjectSWG Launcher, which we expect to be announced Saturday evening. Once you've downloaded and installed it, you will be able to launch the game and login with your forum username and password. Please be aware that the launcher is also in an alpha stage and as such, will also appear buggy and incomplete.

Will the server always be up?

No. As this is a stress test, we expect the server to go down almost constantly as people exploit it and discover ways of crashing it.

Will I be able to dual-log?

Yes.

What are currently known issues I should be aware of?

Clicking the GCW button will crash your game.

What if I discover a bug, exploit or stability issue?

Please report it in the relevent support forum.

Will my characters be wiped?

Yes, they will, so we don't recommend that you put your heart and soul into configuring your character this time round. Please note that this is only the case for the stress test, and no wipes will occur after the server is deemed stable and we move out of the stress test phase.

What if I have multiple accounts?

While multiple accounts are possible during the stress test, users can rest assured that we will be heavily cracking down on them after the stress test phase is complete, especially if said users are banned.

Are forum bans the same as in-game bans?

Yes. This may or may not change in the future, but will be the case for the stress test.

What if I have further questions?

You can e-mail us at support@projectswg.com or post in the relevent forum.
